Dandruff involves the interaction between your scalp’s natural oils, its microorganisms, especially the Malassezia fungus, and your skin’s sensitivity and barrier health. That’s why our Salicylic Acid Shampoo is formulated around the scalp as a whole. Its 2% salicylic acid clears stubborn scale and buildup, while ingredients like honey, oats and panthenol help soothe the scalp and support its microbiome. Together, they address the flakes and itching while caring for the skin underneath.

Honey and oats have deliberate roles beyond moisturising. A small clinical study of topical crude honey in people with dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis reported improvements in itching and scaling. This makes honey a purposeful part of a formula designed to address dandruff while caring for an irritated scalp.

Oats bring complementary support for the skin barrier and microbiome. In a clinical study of a 1% colloidal oat cream, people with eczema experienced improved skin barrier function, hydration and pH, alongside trends toward greater microbial diversity. Laboratory research also found that oats supported the growth and activity of beneficial skin bacteria. These findings reinforce the thinking behind including oats: dandruff care should also address the condition of the scalp underneath the flakes and barrier and microbiome care are huge parts of this.

The second shampoo, on the other hand, matters because your everyday cleanser can leave your scalp feeling coated—or overly stripped. Many smoothing shampoos contain conditioning ingredients designed to leave deposits for softer hair. For a scalp prone to buildup and irritation, that can be an unwanted addition. Strong clarifiers are the opposite: they can swing too far in the other direction. Use Salicylic Acid Shampoo initially 2–3 times weekly and Clarify & Rebalance on the remaining days. Focus cleansing on your scalp, rinse thoroughly, and follow with conditioner on your lengths and ends—especially if you have long hair. This keeps scalp cleansing and hair conditioning where each belongs, so you can control dandruff while keeping your hair manageable. Once the flakes clear, continue the routine rather than waiting for the itching to start again. A maintenance routine is just as essential because dandruff is genetic; you may control the flakes now but the underlying tendency remains. Leaving a dandruff care routine will mean that the dandruff will come back.

Wet your hair thoroughly and massage Salicylic Acid Shampoo into your scalp 2–3 times a week. Leave for 1–2 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.

On the remaining days, wash with Clarify & Rebalance Shampoo. Massage into your wet scalp and rinse thoroughly. Alternate the shampoos rather than using both in the same wash.

Follow both shampoos with our Strength and Shine on your lengths and ends, especially if you have long hair. Once dandruff clears, continue the same routine to keep it under control.
